Eight horses have accepted for a run in the 2014 Stan Fox, including Scissor Kick. All of the runners who accepted a nomination on Monday will be lining up on Saturday.

Of the eight 2014 Spring Racing Carnival prospects, Paul Messara’s in-form colt Scissor Kick is the most impressive and exciting.

Connections will use the Stan Fox as a lead-up to the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 11, for which Scissor Kick is currently paying $9 as one of just six single figure hopes at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The three-year-old bay colt enjoyed a hat-trick earlier this year after taking out successive wins in the More Than Ready Handicap (1250m), Listed Rosebud (1200m), and Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m).

His winning streak was broken earlier this month in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) to Hallowed Crown, but he still managed to finish runner-up. A start from barrier 12 undoubtedly put him off after starting no wider than 7 in his prior races.

The colt’s connections would have been happy today as he drew a start from barrier 4, partnering with jockey Tye Angland – who has ridden Scissor Kick in his last three races.

The other 2014 Caulfield Guineas hopeful running in the Stan Fox on Saturday is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Shooting To Win – currently paying $21.

The three-year-old has been drawn in barrier 3 with Tim Clark set to ride. The two-time winning Northern Meteor colt ran an impressive third place in the Golden Rose a fortnight ago, finishing just one and a half lengths off Scissor Kick.

Gai Waterhouse’s Valentia has drawn barrier 7 for the 2014 Stan Fox and will be ridden by jockey Tommy Berry in the race.

Scratch Me Lucky (barrier 5) and Modoc (barrier 1) were both included in the 2014 Stan Fox Stakes final field & barrier draw for trainer Paul Perry.
