The 2011 Stan Fox Stakes Nominations could be considered somewhat disappointing with only nine runners set to take part in the 1500m event at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.
With the David Hayes trained Whisper Downs being at least one that’s unlikely to accept that number could drop even further at acceptance time tomorrow as well.
The Stan Fox is a Group 2 rated event but with the exception of the super classy Manawanui, the next highest horse is only rated at 74.
In addition to that there’s a couple in 60’s and two more in the 50’s with the lowest being Roma Giaconda at 54.
No doubt this will greatly disappoint the Australian Turf Club as they were looking to build on the Sydney spring carnival this year.
Not all is lost though because as we said Manawanui will take to the track for trainer Ron Leemon.
The three year old is fresh off a win in the Group 1 Golden Rose in a race where he beat the likes of Smart Missile, Helmet and Foxwedge which are considered the best three year olds in the country.
Already at this early stage it looks as if he has this race in the bad and at online bookmaker Luxbet expect him to open at the shortest of short quotes when betting goes live.
If you were looking for a challenger Cocky Raider seems the likely choice with Irish Times also probably the only other with genuine winning claims.
There’s no doubt you’ll find some value for them at Luxbet so be sure to check up on them throughout the week.
We’ll also post the 2011 Stan Fox Final Field tomorrow as well as full form guides, tips and betting information during the next few days.
